Ekottarika Āgama Update (Week 23)

Hello, everyone. Apologies for going quiet for the past couple months. I’ve working on other projects and research since April that ended up taking up most of my time. It was good time spent on background research delving into ancient history as well as exploring the parallels to some of EĀ’s larger sūtras like EĀ 24.5, but it didn’t produce much in the way of new translations from the Ekottarika Āgama. I was also working diligently on a review and edit of DĀ 1. The new version released in May has more detailed footnotes on parallels to various passages in the Mahāvadāna Sūtra and far fewer typos than the initial release. I’ve also submitted this edited version to SuttaCentral for eventual inclusion in their project.

Going forward, I will be focusing on the Ekottarika Āgama again in June. Chapter 12-15 have been drafted and will be released over the next few weeks. I’ll also be continuing the editing of the Dīrgha Āgama translations and passing the improvement on to SuttaCentral. I’d like to also work on my previous translations of the Madhyama Āgama and Saṃyukta Āgama, and I’ll continue releasing drafts from both of them as time permits. But I also have to manage the level of multitasking I attempt. Things tend to grind to a halt because there’s just too many projects that I want or feel I need to work on. So, I’ll be refocusing this summer on working on one project 75% of the time and only on others as a way of taking a break from the main task at hand.

As always, please feel free to write to me or leave comments and suggestions. I still translate requests as they come in, though I can’t make them a priority over the main project, but I do get back to people who’ve made requests for a particular sutra to be translated. Also, if there are particular topics you’d like to learn more about, I can certainly devote some time to blog about them.

Take care everyone!
